level 3 canine emergency first aid trained
We are Level 3 Canine Emergency First Aid trained by iPET Network. Our certificates are available for you to look at on request. Level 3 is the higher level of canine emergency first aid training and is valid for 3 years before renewing. This gives us practical knowledge of first aid for dogs including performing CPR, treating hypothermia & hyperthermia, choking and treating dogs for stings, snake bites & allergic reactions as well as more minor injuries & effectively dressing wounds. We also have a Canine First Aid Kit in our home and all of our vehicles.
fully licensed, insured and dbs checked
At Fernfields, we are licensed and inspected by Malvern Hills District Council to provide Home Boarding and Daycare for dogs. We are fully insured and DBS checked. We have valid public liability, professional indemnity and employers liability insurance as well as vehicle insurance covering our business use. We are totally transparent and are happy to provide our clients with copies of our insurance certificates for your information.
experience
We have thirty years of experience with dogs, on a personal and professional basis, we have a special love for labradors but have lots of experience with various breeds of dogs, including Dachshunds, Frenchies, Spaniels and Boxers. We treat dogs in our care as we would our own dogs and strive to provide the best service for you and your dog and have personal experience of dogs with Osteoarthritis, Cancer & Pancreatitis.
We provide training for puppies through to adult dogs specialising in retrieval and gundog training and are undertaking a Level 4 Canine Behavioural diploma with the British College of Canine Studies.
extra care
We believe in providing that extra care for your dog when they come to stay with us. In the Summer we will do our best to keep dogs cool & hydrated, with flexible walk times to avoid hot weather and also check for ticks, burrs & grass seeds.
In Winter we will wash and towel dry dogs after muddy walks, providing dogs with a drying coat/jumper to keep their joints warm while they dry off. We use ‘Vet-bed’ and clean, dry towels in our vehicle crates, for when we are out and about on walks.
natural treats
We always use grain-free, natural training treats with no additives. We choose our treats from a few carefully selected brands & all our treats are natural and suitable for raw fed dogs as well as dry/kibble fed. If your dog has any allergies, likes or dislikes please let us know.
respect for the environment
We have a great respect for the environment and always pick up poop on our walks, using biodegradable poop bags. We show respect in the countryside, closing gates, keeping dogs on lead around livestock & taking notice of farmland, signs and instructions.
communication
On your introductory visit, you will be given our client information pack and we will take notes of the important information we will need from you.
For home boarding and daycare clients, before your dog’s stay, we will spend time going through their needs, feeding regimes, their usual exercise and daily routines with you, to ensure your dog gets the best care and is settled and relaxed throughout their stay with us. We will also send you regular updates and photos of your dog during their stay.
For dog walking clients, we provide you with a ‘Your Dog’s Diary’ when you come on-board, this is to provide you with much needed communication and information about their time with us. For example pick up and drop off times & it also allows you to leave any messages or information you need to tell us.
vehicle safety
Our vehicles are professionally fitted with purpose built safety crates which have quick release locking systems and escape hatches. They are made by a reputable fabrications company, who specialise in hand crafted dog safety crates, this gives the peace of mind that in an unfortunate instance of our vehicles being involved in an accident, we are able to get dogs out quickly and effectively. We are also fully insured for business purposes on our vehicle insurance policy.
